The Staff Development Institute (SDI) is a local training, consulting and research government institution based at Mpemba, in Blantyre, Malawi. Established in 1962 as a civil service training institution, SDI forms the training arm of the Malawi Civil Service. SDI is administratively placed under the Department of Human Resource Management and Development in the Office of the President and Cabinet. Over the years, it has evolved from being a purely civil servants' training institution to one that caters for both public and private sector organizations. Although it is a Government Institution, it has general autonomy over its day to day operations.
SDI aims at ensuring that the objectives of the Malawi Government Public Sector Reforms are achieved through the provision of demand-driven practical training, consultancy, and research services to clients (who are predominantly Government Ministries and Departments and Local Government Institutions).
The Institute is headed by a Director who is supported by an extensively experienced team of professionals. These Consultants come from a wide range of professional backgrounds, and they possess invaluable expertise amassed over long periods of service in their areas. SDI has an extensive and rich pool of adjunct faculty that it draws from at any time to facilitate its programmes.
